On “A Brief Rant on the Future of Interaction Design”

The Internet recently got hot and bothered about this article from Patrice Neff on the future of interaction design. It’s a good read, so read it. But I think it missed the mark in a few ways.

Hands are, indeed, amazingly good at manipulating real-life objects. Your tactile senses are a highly evolved skill that took millions of collective years to develop and perfect. But tactile input works best when manipulating real-life objects, and most computing tasks are all about manipulating representations of objects.
